Tim and Rumi Smith 2 piano concert

Sometimes known as the current "first couple of the piano in Alaska," pianists Tim and Rumi Smith's concerts always receive enthusiastic audience acclaim, and are filled with vibrant and virtuosic compositions.  This concert includes standard classical fare as well as selections from the modern Japanese popular repertoire.  Dr. Smith will also be performing solo selections by Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin on this concert.  Interesting notes on the program:  Ravel's Symphonie Espagnole, is infused with Spanish rhythms and dance styles including the Habanera and Malaguena.  The final movement ends in the grand dramatic style of an exuberant Spanish festival.  "Agitato" by Shinya Kyozuka is an exciting virtuosic escapade for two pianists on one piano.  The energy level and intensity of this work stays on a high level throughout the piece.  The program will conclude with solo works by Chopin and Franz Liszt as presented by Dr. Timothy Smith.  Audiences have been attending Dr. Smith's brilliant piano concerts in Anchorage for many years; he has a recording of Liszt piano works that is currently available on Spotify.
