Music of the North: 11th Season Opening!
Anchorage Museum
Join us for the first concert of this summer’s Festival! ACMF’s distinguished guest artists come together in a celebration of music by composers from the northern climates. Bask in the resonance of Pärt’s meditative Fratres, and admire the majesty of Grieg’s string quartet. Along the way, discover Sibelius’ lesser-known Malinconia, a deeply emotional work for cello and piano.

Romantic String Quartets
House Concert
See the musicians up close as they perform romantic-era quartets in an intimate house concert setting. House concerts are an opportunity to experience chamber music as it was originally intended: in the living room! Featuring music by Schubert, Brahms, and Schumann.

Music of War
UAA Recital Hall
A program of turbulent music, written in some of the darkest times of the 20th century. Artistic Director Christine Harada Li tackles Prokofiev’s brooding first Violin Sonata, in collaboration with returning guest artist David Fung on piano. Shostakovich’s foreboding Piano Trio No. 2 takes listeners on a journey unlike any other in chamber music, eliciting the trio’s most chilling and eerie soundscapes. In Britten’s Canticle III, Artistic Director Nathaniel Pierce offers a poetic reflection on the darkness and disillusions of the time.

Piano Trio Elegies
House Concert
Indulge in mournful and plaintive melodies of the romantic era, from Massenet’s operatic lines to Joseph Suk’s intimate soundscapes. Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky’s soaring themes complete the program, leaving listeners to contemplate their shared and singular musical connections.

Beethoven String Quartets
House Concert
Beethoven pushed the art of the string quartet to the limit in his time. Join us for two pillars of the quartet literature, culminating in Beethoven’s marathon Grosse Fuge. Universally condemned upon its premiere, the work’s titanic struggle has secured its place as one of the greatest (and most difficult) masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire.

Road to America
UAA Recital Hall
A program celebrating the mutual influence of the American and European continents. Czech composer Antonín Dvořák composed his “American” quartet during his time in the United States, while Austrian-born Erich Wolfgang Korngold became one of the most influential composers in Hollywood history. A world premiere by American composer Lowell Liebermann completes the program.

Sounds of Spain: 11th Season Finale! (FUNDRAISER)
House Concert
All our artists come together to perform a program of distinctly Iberian flavor. Don’t miss the final concert of ACMF’s 2023 Summer Season! Featuring music by Gaspar Cassado, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla, and Joaquin Turina.
