Alaska Youth Orchestras (AYO) started as a Resident Company in the 2011-2012 season. The mission of AYO is to build musicianship, inspire youth to love music, offer enriching opportunities for music performance, and create a musical legacy that will sustain arts throughout the lives of its members and Anchorage communities. AYO envisions a community where music education and performance are valued and shared.
AYO develops its programs around four core values: Musicianship - AYO inspires young musicians as individuals and as a group to strive for and experience musical excellence; Performance - AYO inspires young musicians and audiences through superior musical performances; Inspiring Youth - AYO inspires young musicians to life-long participation in and support of the arts in Alaska and beyond; Musical Legacy - through its teaching, musical performance and leadership among youth arts groups, AYO fosters lifelong appreciation among its members for the rewards of responsibility, commitment, self-confidence, discipline and teamwork.
The Alaska Youth Orchestras, which is comprised of about 100 high school musicians, provides high quality orchestral performance experiences for talented young musicians, and furthers musicianship of members through rehearsals, concerts, education, tours, and community involvement.
